Editorial Reviews:

Product Description

Personal vendettas, hidden treasure, and a monkey named Carl will send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most explosive adventure yet.

The Crime: Armed robbery to the tune of nine million dollars

Dom Rizzi robbed a bank, stashed the money, and did the time. His family couldn’t be more proud. He always was the smart one.

The Cousin: Joe Morelli

Joe Morelli, Dom Rizzi, and Dom’s sister, Loretta, are cousins. Morelli is a cop, Rizzi robs banks, and Loretta is a single mother waiting tables at the firehouse. The all-American family.

The Complications: Murder, kidnapping, destruction of personal property, and acid reflux

Less than a week after Dom’s release from prison, Joe Morelli has shadowy figures breaking into his house and dying in his basement. He’s getting threatening messages, Loretta is kidnapped, and Dom is missing.

The Catastrophe: Moonman

Morelli hires Walter “Mooner” Dunphy, stoner and “inventor” turned crime fighter, to protect his house. Morelli can’t afford a lot on a cop’s salary, and Mooner will work for potatoes.

The Cupcake: Stephanie Plum

Stephanie and Morelli have a long-standing relationship that involves sex, affection, and driving each other nuts. She’s a bond enforcement agent with more luck than talent, and she’s involved in this bank-robbery-gone-bad disaster from day one.

The Crisis: A favor for Ranger

Security expert Carlos Manoso, street name Ranger, has a job for Stephanie that will involve night work. Morelli has his own ideas regarding Stephanie’s evening activities.

The Conclusion: Only the fearless should read Fourteen.

Thrills, chills, and incontinence may result.

3 out of 5 stars Not her usual stuff   July 20, 2008

I do have to say this was not one of Janets best. I felt that this was a little dragged out. It was not her normal funny. I think Lula and Tanks engagement was kind of funny. This just did not spark any excitement with me like her past books. Lets hope she was just going through a dry spell and that number 15 will make up for it.

4 out of 5 stars Danger prone Plum is as zany as ever   July 19, 2008

Trenton, N. J. bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is back, as intrepid, softhearted, danger-prone and funny as ever. As the story opens she nabs an old high school classmate, Loretta Rizzi, for skipping her court appearance on armed robbery charges. Loretta held up a liquor store for one bottle of gin.

There's no one to take care of Loretta's teenage son, Mario, aka Zook, graffiti artist and video-game champ, so Stephanie agrees to look after him briefly, just until Loretta can be re-bonded. Naturally this brief favor balloons as Loretta at first fails to get rebonded and then goes missing.

Meanwhile Stephanie is helping bounty hunter Ranger, the taciturn, black-clad, lean machine and sometime lover, guard an over-the-hill, out-of-control celebrity from a rather nebbishy and psychic stalker. She has to call on cop boyfriend Joe Morelli to help out with the kid.

And Loretta's brother Dom, just out of prison for a bank robbery that netted nine million - never recovered - is furious that Zook is with Morelli, who he thinks cheated him out of his aunt's house and is the kid's deadbeat father. Loretta never married and never said and Zook does look like Morelli but then Morelli is a cousin ...

Mayhem ensues as a dead man turns up in Morelli's basement, Grandma Mazur becomes a gamer and Stephanie finds herself hiding under the bed while a couple of killers toss Dom's hideout, looking for a lead to the bank-job loot.

Fast-paced, playful, zany, and as diverting as a day at the beach, Evanovich's 14th Plum novel should please her legions of fans.

2 out of 5 stars Not as good as the others   July 19, 2008

Definitely did not keep my attention as the others have. Lacked some of the spark and interest as the others. Still an enjoyable read, but nothing special. Definitely the worst one of the series.

5 out of 5 stars Hilarious   July 19, 2008

This book has to be her funniest yet. Her characters seem so real and so funny.

2 out of 5 stars Missing pages!   July 19, 2008

I was loving this book but after reading page 118, the next page did not make sense. No wonder! It skipped to page 151! From there it went to pg 182 and repeated pgs 151-182 again and finally ended with pg 310. So, I am not sure how much of the book is missing. I feel gipped!!! The hassle of returning is too much. Never buying from here again.
