Connection to my sister October 12, 2008 Kristy M. Branch (Nashville, TN USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
For the 25 yrs I've been alive no movie has ever touched my heart like Rags to Riches. When I was a little girl, I would go to my grandmother's house and I would try to remember to bring the movie from home so my cousin and I could watch it. At the time, Ash and I were the only girls of our generation and having no other siblings of my own (brothers/sisters) it was like watching the show with the sister I never had. We loved the movie so much we memorized all the songs and would always sing them together. Now at age 25 and it being near Christmas I wanted to do something special for both Ash and I, I was planning to buy the movie on DVD and surprise her, plus buy one for my mother and I as well, but I was painfully hurt when I found out amazon did not have the movie in stock. We are in a time where not many people still have VCRs anymore, everything has gone high tech, and to see certain movies that have not been transfered to DVD is really sad. Movies like, "Sing" and "Rags to Riches", these movies are special to people and to not find them on a DVD is really heart breaking. I know most people don't read reviews but I hope you read this one because it's important. Having a connection is important, and having them with the people you love and admire, people you've grow up with, people you're honored to have as family, it's important to keep that connection. I hope someday in the near future to come on amazon and find Rags to Riches moved to the DVDs. I hope one day to see the over whelming look on my mother and my cousin's faces when I give the movies to them. But most of all I hope to sit down with my own children someday and watch it with them and see them as they develope that same connection I developed with my cousin Ash.
The movie that started it all August 6, 2008 Renee King (Hiram, GA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I just wanted to chime in that the movie preceded the series. It was NOT a piecemeal of the series to create a movie. The movie introduced the characters or could be better described as the PILOT for the series. I am praying that NBC will release the series (with the movie included) as a DVD set. If nothing else, it would put the vultures that are charging upwards of $100 bucks for their pirated copies out of business. It would be nice if they can do add updates on all of the cast members as part of the extras on the dvd....I can only tell you about Joe or Tisha....but I loved them all! I highly recommend this wonderful series to anyone who has an affinity for mid-century bebop music and truly believe that DREAM MAKERS exist!
Waiting for DVD of movie and series. July 9, 2008 S. Beachy (PA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First off, this is by far one of the best series cancelled way too soon. I just wish that they would put out a DVD of the entire series including the movie. I just fell in love with this series growing up and when it went off the air, I was devasted! It's one of the few shows that I still think about and want to see again. I refuse to buy it on tape though because I wouldn't want to watch it in fear of something happening to it or it wearing out like tapes tend to do. Secondly, I have to add this point, the movie is NOT the series at all. I have no idea where anyone got that impression. The series was also missing one of the movie's key characters. The movie focuses a lot on one character and her need to be independent due to some boy (Nina played by Heather McAdams who later played Cat on Sisters/ Teddie's daughter). The series, as far as I can remember, doesn't even mention her character. I could be wrong in my memory of this, but I'm absolutely correct about the issue of the series and the movie not being the same. Anyway, it's a movie that will stick with you for a long time.
The series and the movie were not one and the same! March 2, 2008 A. Crafton 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Someone stated that the series was just the movie cut up with commercials placed throughout. That is simply not true. The move was a jumpstart for the series. It showed how the girls ended up in the mansion and the series was about their lives there. I wish this was out on dvd. I'd purchase the whole series. My friends and I used to gush about the show the day after it aired.
I KNEW it!!! May 27, 2007 Reading Public (Trinidad, West Indies) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
HA! I've finally found proof that I am not making it up! I loved this TV show and used to tell all my friends about it. None of 'em had ever even HEARD of it and one person told me, "Are you sure you don't have your own SPECIAL TV that shows these things you make up??" Well! I was vindicated when Battlestar Galactica came back out on TV, I've found the Peanut Butter Solution, and now this...Ahhhh...victory is sweet! :) Off to look for Small Wonder...that cute lil robot girl...
