TRIMMER/EDGER May 2, 2008 Morris Friedman (NYC) THIS TRIMMER/EDGER HAS SOME NICE FEATURES, AN EXTRA BATTERY AND AN AUTOMATIC STRING FEEDER. IT CAN GET A LITTLE HEAVY AFTER PROLONGED USE.
Black & Decker 18 Volt Cordless Trimmer April 28, 2008 Helen E. Starks Wonderful equipment to own. My only problem is the length of time on the battery. She works a bit slower than I and the battery always dies out before she is finished.

VERY POOR Batteries April 27, 2008 c kelly (Dayton, OH) Very poor batteries--they must be used immediately after charging, drain quickly, and take a long time to re-charge. Since it only comes with 1 charger and won't hold a charge, must start charging 12 hours before you intend to use it (6 hours for each battery). With today's battery technology, Black & Decker could have done much better
Hopefully can be put together April 27, 2008 Aunt Vee (East Coast United States) Instructions are really inadequate - just some pictures to show roughly where things go but no directions to explain how to do. I can't get the screws in the guard to line up with the holes on the frame - I can attach two of the three but the third always misses the hole. Not sure where the nut goes on the handle - here's where instructions would help. I remember now that I had an equally difficult time with my corded Black & Decker trimmer. Once together, it worked fine but it was a job and a half getting all the pieces attached. On this one, I've 9 hours while the battery is charging. I assume I'll be able to get it together then. Something this difficult to assemble should really come pre-assembled even if it means using a bigger box.
Convenient, but possible safety issue with auto string advance feature April 27, 2008 Wendy (Maryland United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This trimmer is great with its cordless feature. No worries about starting it up, either - just push a button and go. It's also very light weight and incredibly easy to maneuver. And, it's powerful enough for dense grass and/or weeds. The battery charge did not wear off as we trimmed and we have 1/2 acre.
My only complaint is really a safety concern related to the string auto-advance feature. I especially like that you don't have to stop trimming and bang it on the ground to advance the string, but that may also be a big safety issue. Please beware that the trimmer can advance the string before it's necessary causing it to extend beyond the protective shield then snap off - at a very high rate of speed.
Yesterday my son was hit in the face with a piece of string just below his eye. Luckily, he was wearing sunglasses, but he was still left with " slice on his cheek. Later in the day, I experienced the same problem when a piece flew off and hit me in my leg, tearing a hole in my pants. The string was actually imbedded in my calf. I read that this has happened to other reviewers.
