Yea ummmm this ain't workin' May 20, 2008 MrNaturl (USA) I like most of what Michael's done since the days of the Doobie Brothers. However, uptempo work like this just doesn't seem to fit McDonald's vocals well at all anymore. It's not entirely bad. I know many artist's who would've butchered this song. It just won't get a lot of plays out of me. Sorry Michael, maybe next time.
Downloaded for free. May 19, 2008 R. Krautbauer A bang up deal that's for sure. Easy to download, all went fine and I think Micheal McDonald did a great job on the song too.
Michael McDonald Remakes Another Classic May 8, 2008 Mark (NY, NJ, CT USA) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I love all kinds of music. And I generally prefer to hear the interpretation of the original artist, that's just my bias. So when I saw this new track on Michael McDonald's latest album, I was skeptical. Yet Michael McDonald's voice is so unique that he brings something to every song, even remakes. This is no exception. This is a solid track. Don't get me wrong, I don't think that the original "Higher and Higher" has been equalled here. But I can see this new version breathing life into a song not in the forefront of everybody's mind. So what Michael McDonald is old? Everybody gets old. Ray Charles got old and Johnny Cash got old, and age only added more character to their voices. In the case of Michael McDonald, he's going to have to get a lot older before his voice changes at all. Nope, it's not everybody's style of music, but the man can sing. There's a part in the movie "The 40 Year Old Virgin" where one of the store clerks wants to shoot himself because they keep playing MM over and over. I imagine that a lot of people feel that way. Still, I am glad to hear this new take on a classic song. For those that don't like MM, you don't have to listen to this, not even once. Unless you work at SmartTek. :) Enjoy.

So what if he's old. He can still get my toes tapping and at least he doesn't sound like those marble mouth rap crappers that are all the rage.
God save Jackie Wilson May 6, 2008 Whodat Whodare (Amish Country) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Boy, this guy sounds old, sort of like a young Tom Waites. MM just doesn't have IT anymore, He wasn't even that good when he was with the Doobie brothers. Get the Jackie Wilson version if you want to hear this song at it's best.
