Amazon.com Product Description The exquisite Stuhrling Original Winchester skeleton automatic watch is anchored by the same reliable 20-jewel mechanical automatic movement (cal. ST-90089) as previously seen in two of Stuhrling's all-time best selling timepieces, the Delphi and the Alpine. But with the Winchester, the movement exhibits even more detailing and hand engraving than ever before. The simple three-hand movement with the well proportioned pumpkin style crown and the brushed finish skeletonized hands makes for a reliable and eye-catching timepiece that is never out of place. An automatic (or self-winding) watch is fitted with a device (rotor) that automatically winds the spring by using the force of gravity. It needs no battery, but it will stop if you have been physically inactive for an extended period of time--as long as you're moving, the watch will stay powered. Swiss watchmaker Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the self-winding mechanism in 1770. It worked on the same principle as a modern pedometer, and was designed to wind as the owner walked. The Stuhrling Brand Story
With dedication to the heritage of Swiss watchmaking, Stuhrling Original timepieces appeal to the most discriminating taste at reasonable prices. The company has roots dating back to the 1800's when Switzerland emerged as the global leader in watchmaking. Stuhrling Original remains committed to its mission of preserving the high standards set in Switzerland manufacturing all of their fine timepieces in their Swiss-owned factory! Each and every model conveys an inimitable story with extraordinary style. You'll find heirloom selections for both men and women that even the most astute watch collector will cherish and admire.
In the workshops of Stuhrling Original, the unit specializing in mechanical movements, component selection, assembly, lubrication, adjustment and testing creates horological wonders entirely under vigilant attention of Swiss ownership and supervision. It is these workshops that produce the mechanical engines that are famous for meeting the highest existing criteria in there category. Starting with the main plate, the assembly process is performed in several consecutive stages up until anchoring the balance spring, which sets the watch into motion. Assembling a Stuhrling Original mechanical automatic movement comprises no less than 30 checkpoints, spread throughout the assembly process. Adjusting the angle of lift of the pallets, centering the balance-spring, poising the balance are just a few examples of these checkpoints; of which all are designed to enhance the performance of each movement. The movement must meet no less than seven criteria, including a mean variation in rate which is the highest standard in the industry in its class.
Stuhrling Original cases are distinguished by their technical complexity, their high-end aesthetic appeal and the quality of their finish. The watch cases are made from antimagnetic 316L surgical grade stainless steel, an extremely sophisticated alloy designed to stand up to intensive use. The rough parts, known as "middlecases" are blanked from a metal bar using a high-performance press. They then undergo eight successive stamping operations of a strength increasing gradually from 20 to 85 tons. Before each swaging operation, the middlecase is refired at a temperature of 1100 degrees Celsius, so as to temporarily reduce the hardness to a total stamping pressure of more than 400 tons. Finishing the cases then calls for fifteen polishing operations, all performed by hand alternating with nine baths guaranteeing immaculate cleanliness. Other components of the cases, such as rotating bezels or rider tabs also require a meticulous finish. The components of the cases are finally assembled by hand and rigorously tested.
Each Stuhrling Original dial has been designed to enable optimal read-off at a glance, while adding an element of artistic design. Stuhrling Original's dials are blanked from a brass plate and two cylindrical feet are soldered below to ensure security with the movement. Polishing operations, creating special effects through the use of vintage hydraulic German machines, and electroplating are just some of the more than forty operations required to make most StuhrlingOriginal dials. The transparent protective coating is applied in an immaculately clean environment before the various inscriptions are transfer printed using a gelatin pad which takes an impression from an inked block. On many of the dials the hour markers are either individually applied by hand or embossed into the dial and then topped with a special dye. The application of Super Luminova is performed by artisans with a nozzle pen connected to a high-pressure pipe which calls for intense concentration. Once finished, each dial undergoes careful aesthetic scrutiny under extreme magnification, as well as technical testing, to ensure it complies with all predefined dimensions and specifications.
Through meticulous labor, rigorous testing and examination of each timepiece by expert horologists, the vision of the Stuhrling Original timepiece is brought to life inside our workshops, where...

Lukewarm initial reaction - But it grows on you November 18, 2008 H. Aslam (Ontario, CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A few points: The pictures do not do this watch any justice. This is a very well crafted and intricately designed device, and the closer you look at it the more you will appreciate it. Initially the watch seemed, very much out there. Which in a way is a good conversation starter. The strap is a little too shiny, but it's leather and it got worn in really nicely. No light or illumination on the dials. It's actually kinda loud... the winding mechanism can definitely be heard a yard or two away in a quiet room. End of the day, there's no other watch like it. So I had to keep it and love it
Great watch and great price! November 16, 2008 Terry A. Stoor (atlanta, ga United States) Great watch....very impressive watch. Looks like it should cost a couple of thousand of dollars. Not having to worry about a battery is a plus, but the down side is that you end up setting the watch a few more times as the automatic movement runs out. I would highly recommend this watch for anyone in business or one who wants an impressive looking watch for everyday use.
WOW!!!! November 14, 2008 R. Hark (San Jose, CA USA) So I got my watch today as a birthday gift and its absolutely amazing! It feels great on my wrist and is quite the conversation piece! The packaging is very authentic and pristine. This is my first Stuhrling watch and there definitely will be more to follow!!!
great watch, impressed with the quality! November 10, 2008 chansigril (pennsylvania) had my eye on this watch for a few weeks and mentioned it to my wife, who decided to purchase it for me as a birthday gift. overall, the watch is very impressive and i would consider it good value for the money. the heft, fit and finish are very nice. the crystal and components are of good quality and the design is very nice as well, with the movement clean and showing well from both the front and back. i was concerned that the internals or numerals may look cheap and was pleasantly surprised to find this not the case at all, the watch appears to have been crafted and assembled with care from quality components and functions very well. the st-90089 movement seems to be keeping excellent time. my other concern was regarding the size as i do not have particularly thick wrists. the size is perfect; the transparent case and relatively low overall case height combine to make this watch wear a little smaller than it's 41mm would indicate. the proportions are very nice indeed. the one thing that i would change regarding this watch would be to add some lume. the lack of night-time visibility is unfortunate and makes this watch a casual wear for me instead of an every day timepiece. i knew this when purchasing it however and so am not detracting a star from it. this watch is exactly as advertised and has earned my 5 star review. it's a decent quality time piece (better than expected actually) and an attractive addition to anyone's collection!
Stylish watch at a working man's price. October 11, 2008 Soldier of Fortune Cookie (Southern California) This is a very nice watch at a great price. I have many watches. This is just as nice as many of my other much more expensive watches. The leather band will be replaced with a metal one. The leather band is of good quality, but leather isn't better where I'm concerned.
