Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This camera can be viewed and controlled from a standard Web browser, video display, or even a compatible cell phone or PDA. Place it in your home, office, vacation home or almost anywhere else that you'd like to keep an eye on things, with no PC required on location! It is easy to install and operate and require no additional software for the PC that you're viewing them on. The camera also comes with a free Web address, which can track the camera automatically. All you need is a regular Web browser to view it on your PC, as all of the other required software, including control software (TCP/UDP) and e-mail software (SMTP), is already inside the camera. This model was designed for outdoor operation, and meets both IPX4 and UL6500 standards of outdoor equipment. It operates down to -40F and up to 1220F, and is splash resistant for wet-weather operation. Use of the built-in microphone and a separately purchased amp-equipped speaker enables two-way voice communication (transceiver system) between the network camera and a PC used to monitor the camera image. 5 out of 5 stars Easy to install, reliable, but pricey. Probably worth the extra bucks for most...   August 29, 2008

I installed this camera on the windowsill of our unheated-in-winter (unless we're there) cabin in the mountains in Colorado - looking out at the view there. These Panasonic IP cameras can be pricey, but the higher the price - the more bells and whistles you get (this one, for example, can take the cold). Installation is a breeze - little to no knowledge of networking is required (though it's helpful in order to understand what's going-on) - and the seamless set-up of free web monitoring through the included DNS service is a huge plus. The picture and video is pretty darn good, considering it's just a 300K pixel camera (as are most in this and lower price ranges), and the motion sensor really will e-mail you a photo when something triggers it (if you've set it up to do so). I've got two more less-elegant Panasonic cams in my home for watching the cats (and any "visitors") when we're away, and they've operated for months in trouble-free fashion. If you've got a wealth of networking knowledge and a skinny wallet you can buy the less-costly, brand-X, IP cameras, set-up your own, free, Dynamic DNS account, open the ports on your router, copy the IP addresses from one place to another, and piece-meal it all together - or you can spend a little more and let the Panasonic camera and the included software do it all for you.
