Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com Families come in many different shapes and sizes, but few humans consider rodents members of the family. Dave Seville (Jason Lee) is no exception, so when this flailing musician finds three young talking chipmunks gorging themselves in his kitchen cupboards, Dave is quick to question his sanity and then toss the offending chipmunks outside into the rain and restore order. When Dave hears the chipmunks singing outside his window, he realizes that that unusual trio might just be the world's next vocal sensation and he strikes a bargain with them--the chipmunks can stay with him if they sing his songs. While chipmunks Alvin (Justin Long), Theodore (Jesse McCartney), and Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler) quickly begin to see Dave as a father figure, it's strictly a business arrangement for Dave and he maintains an appropriate emotional distance. Dave's frustration with the chipmunks mounts as they unwittingly wreak havoc on his personal life, but when Dave's old friend and record label mogul Ian (David Cross) begins to exploit the chipmunks for personal gain, Dave suddenly realizes what an important part of his life, and indeed his family, the three chipmunks have become. Hilarity reins in this live action/CGI comedy with many memorable scenes--think chipmunks showering in the dishwasher, riding in remote control planes, and bouncing off the walls under the influence of a serious caffeine buzz. Catchy Chipmunks' songs both new and old promise to lodge themselves in the minds of viewers long after the credits roll and even those none-too-enchanted with the premise of singing chipmunks can't help but be entertained by this comical film. (Ages 6 and older with parental guidance due to mild rude humor) --Tami Horiuchi

Very Disappointed February 11, 2010 Mom of 3 (Seattle, WA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this for my 4 year old and was disappointed in the language used by the characters. My own memories of Alvin did not include such words and attitude. (Maybe I date myself here.) The first story was OK. The second one we had to turn off and I had to hide the DVD. Maybe it's not for a 4 year old (or younger) but honestly, I won't be letting them watch it when they are 5 or 6 even. They have a lifetime to learn those words so I don't want them to learn them from Alvin and his brothers now. Why do writers include such???
Mislead February 4, 2010 Tammy Smith (NANTICOKE, PA, US) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The cover mislead me to believe that it was a christmas movie of alvin and the chipmunks. My two year old loves them and this turned out to be a movie that he already had.
Alvin! January 23, 2010 Island Dreamer (Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This movie is both funny and teaches a lesson. It teaches through the characters Alvin, Theodore and Simon that when you do something, you need to live up to the consequences. I liked this movie and so did the three children I watched it with (my little cousins). I'm glad that it is not all animated and I liked the way that they used both animation and real life acting. Most anyone will like this one. It's a must see for people who loved the cartoon. Although the voices do get just a bit annoying (they did for me anyway). Still, it's a funny cute movie that will have you saying "awww".
Great Movie! must see for kids!!!
Adorable and Funny ! January 4, 2010 Donna Grayson (Los Angeles, CA United States) I loved this new updated Alvin and the Chipmunks movie ! Jason Lee was perfect as Dave Seville. It was very funny and entertainment. The animation for the chipmunks was very well done.
I recommend watching the DVD extras at the end. The history of Alvin and the Chipmunks was very interesting on how they were created. For example, in the movie Dave Seville's address is 1958 - well, thats the year that the Chipmunks were created.
A very enjoyable and funny movie.
