1 out of 5 stars If you've had this printer more than 4 months and it still works as well or at all, then you can rave all you want   July 1, 2008
Annabelle (North Carolina)
It had just come out in the stores when I bought it, the sales lady was pushing it saying it was GREAT. But now I'd say wait a year or two for the manufacturer to fix all its flaws before rushing out to buy it. I've always had HPs and this printer was a major disappointment for me. The pictures are not as good as HP's. The color is not as true and the image not as sharp. It's NOT for daily use as a work printer, if that's what you are looking for. The much cheaper ink cartridges are made to catch your attention, but they are smaller than HP's, so you'll have to buy them more often. I used an HP exclusively on black ink for years, and paying for just black ink was a nice option that Kodak does not have. You must keep both cartridges full for the 5300 to work at all. Printing color items regularly DOES NOT prevent the predestined decline in the bad printer heads, nor does cleaning or calibrating. I noticed a major drop in print quality four months from the purchase date, and it kept going down from there. It deteriorated whether the inks were full or not.

Nearly 8 months from the time I purchased it, it simply would not print at all with the heads cleaned and brand-spanking new ink cartridges. If you clean the printer heads, watch the ink disappear.

I am awaiting a new printer head in the mail with a promised color-black ink cartridge replacement. Customer service treated me fairly, diagnosed the problem after 45 minutes on the phone (lots of hold time) and apologized for the problems, but I'm without a working printer until I find out if this fixes it or not.

5 out of 5 stars Kodak quality and easy to use, too.   July 1, 2008

Kodak EasyShare 5300 All-in-One Printer Print, Copy, and Scan (8804056) I've purchased and used too many printers over the years. Without a doubt, this has been my favorite right from the start. And knowing that the ink cartridges for Kodak printers are cheaper in price by far, that only makes this deal so much better. The instructions were straight forward and the ease of installation was great. As you unpack the box you are acquainted with the parts in use. Kodak even has the user install the print head. This means to me that unlike other machines, if the print head goes out, I can replace it! There is a separate tray on the 5300 for 4X6 photo paper. If you want to print a picture, push in the tray. When you are done and want to resume normal printing, pull the tray back to the original position. Couldn't be simpler. I've tried all the functions having to do with an all-in-one printer and I am completely satisfied.

3 out of 5 stars Terrible installation software   June 29, 2008

This is the largest printer I've ever owned. After I opened it, it worked fine as a stand-alone unit. The nightmare began when I tried to install it on my PC. I started in the morning and finally finished the next day. I tried the installation CD about 40 times. My PC recognized the Kodak 5300, but would not print. I went to the website and tried their newest online installation software about 9 times, but it still would not install and work correctly. The next day I installed a seperate easyshare software. After a reboot, it finally succeeded. I was blown away when I tried a test print with an 8 x 10 photo on regular paper. The quality was near 35mm negative quality. I'm sure if I used photo paper, it would easily be photo lab negative quality. The text print was laser quality. I havn't tried the scanner yet. Overall, the print quality is unbeatable, but Kodak seriously needs to get a professional software company for its installation CD.

5 out of 5 stars What can I say   June 24, 2008

If you have a digital camera than you have to get this all-in-one printer. It is without a doubt the best investment you will ever make in your life when it comes to printers.

I have a Kodak easyshare digital camera and with this printer I can make pictures that are of better quality than a photo processing lab, and I mean that.

KODAK ROCKS!!!!!!!!!

1 out of 5 stars Printer is Defective   June 24, 2008

I purchased this printer in Jan 2008. It worked until the end of May. For the last month I have exchanged a number of emails with their customer service department. After asking me to do a lot of procedures they decided that the print head was defective and said they would send a new one which I should receive in 1 - 2 days. It has now been over a week. I emailed and asked and they did not reply.

For years I owned HP printers which worked fine. I bought the idea of cheaper ink and have paid dearly. It now looks like I may have to pitch a printer which lasted four months. It seems like anyone who makes a throwaway printer like Kodaks should definitely charge less.

In short, this printer is no bargain.
