The Wii Classic Controller recreates the classic Nintendo format you've been using for years now. For gamers who don't feel comfortable with the new Nunchaku or Wiimote controls, this is a familiar and comfortable alternative. Features include:

2 out of 5 stars sucks, not same buttons   October 3, 2008

not same buttons as n64, so pretty lame.

I was really hoping to play some ocarina of time on it.

4 out of 5 stars Nicely made. Underutilized.   September 7, 2008

I quite like this controller, maybe not as much as the gamecube controller (which is one of my favorite controllers ever made) but it's still pretty damn good. My only real complaint is the lack of compatibility with my Wii games. I understand the Wii is supposed to be focused on motion sensing but if I don't want the waggling gimmicks I shouldn't be forced to play that way, I thought that was the point of the classic controller. Even in Twilight Princess, a game that was also on the gamecube, you can't use a gamecube or a classic controller to play it on the Wii. It doesn't make sense that a game that was also programmed for play with a gamecube controller can't be played with one on the Wii, but I digress...

Works better than the old style. I cant wait for some vintage games to come out so I can see what this bab can really do.

3 out of 5 stars A good product, that suffers from poor support   July 13, 2008

I bought the Classic Controller when I decided to buy titles from the Wii Shop Channel. The controller itself is good quality, the size is good, and the buttons are nice and clicky. You have to plug it into the Wii remote to use it, but that isn't such a big deal.

The one complaint I have with the Classic Controller, is in part a complaint I have with many Wii games. Despite the multitude of physical controller types compatible with the Wii, the customization of the controls in-game leaves quite a bit to be desired. All of the games I've played force you to use the analog stick for character control, when the controller itself is set up to prioritize the D-pad for control. Were it not for this one oversight on Nintendo's part, I would have given the Classic Controller 5 stars.

If you're planning to play any games for the Virtual Console, or any games that look like they'd utilize a more classic control type, opt for the Classic Controller. Just be prepared to hold the controller a little sideways, so that you can use the left thumb stick without the controller slipping out of your hands.
