The T819 operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 networks and can handle high-speed data connectivity via T-Mobile's EDGE network (which stands for "Enhanced Data Rates for Global Evolution"). It's also one of T-Mobile's first handsets to use its new 3G UMTS/WCDMA network (1700 MHz), allowing you to download ringtones and games, send photos and videos to online albums, access high-speed color Internet sites, and email quickly while on the go. Where UMTS isn't available, the handset will automatically connect to T-Mobile's EDGE network. This phone is compatible with T-Mobile's myFaves service, which allows you to call up to five of your most common contacts--on any network, even landlines--without using any of your minutes. Measuring just 0.55 inches thin, the Samsung T819 sports a large 2-inch LCD screen with support for 65K colors and a 176 x 220-pixel resolution. The top of the phone includes a standard four-way toggle, two soft keys, and answer/end buttons, and the numeric keypad is found underneath the sliding face. The phone's camera lens requires that the face is slid open. The camera can snap pictures in four resolutions--from 128 x 96 to 1280 x 1024 pixels (1.3 megapixels)--and it offers a 4x digital zoom, night mode, brightness and white balance settings, self-timer, and multiple color effects. It can also record video clips with sound, and both images and videos can be saved either to the phone's shared 30 MB of memory or an optional MicroSD memory card. I like this phone. It looks stylish, is small but not too small to handle, and the bronze finish is appealing. There are all the usual functions people expect in a phone these days (most of which I personally never use). The only real criticism I'd have of this phone is the reception quality. Now that might not be the fault of the phone. It could just be the areas I frequent the most have poor reception. Overall though this phone is pretty good.

I've had this phone for about 6 months. While it's fairly good in terms of sound quality and has a good battery life, the are some issues:
-Many calls are dropped when when I'm not moving and have a signal
-The camera quality is aweful, you barely see your image unless you take the picture in broad daylight
-The slider is way too sensitive, I accidently hang up all the time!

I don't text. I looked at phones that all seemed geared toward avid texters and people who may be talking on the phone all the time. That's not me. All I needed was a phone that I could easily carry and make an occasional phone call on.
That's the Samsung t819.
I haven't had any problem with reception or call quality. That's all good. So far, I've had no problems at all. It has an okay camera that can record video, too.
Also, a helpful feature is that when the phone is in closed position, it automatically key-locks so that you don't accidentally turn it on when it's in your pocket. The lock then disengages as soon as you slide the phone open.
If you're looking for a phone that is simple, yet effective, this one's for you.

Serious Issues - Suggestion choose another manufacture. The last two Samsung phones I purchased have been buggy. Bluetooth seems to be a big problem for Samsung - especially if you have a newer car with bluetooth. Both Samsung and T-Mobile will put you through hell before they will replace them. t629 when on a call using bluetooth will drop the call you are on and you cannot "accept" the 2nd call. t-819 is also buggy in bluetooth mode. The volume increases and decreases during conversation making a call frustratingly difficult. Additionally, the t-819 40-50% of the time will show connected but caller is unable to hear the other party. Bought a Sony Erricson and it is perfect in every way. For the record Lexus duplicated the problem with Samsung and determined it IS the Samsung phone. Their test phones (not Samsung) worked perfectly with the vehicle bluetooth. Come on folks it is 2008 bluetooth technology has been around for more than a decade.

this phone is so awesome, i dont know what the other people are talking about getting the 'pink' off because i had no problems switching the color to grey. i had the 629 and got this phone to replace it and have not had 1 problem with it. very easy to use and picture is very clear. in my opinion samsung phones last a long time and are VERY reliable. i only have to charge it once every 4 or 5 days! battery lasts a long time. once again samsung has a satisfied customer!!!!
