Amazon.com Prince of Persia is set in a land rooted in ancient Persian mythology, with the Prince finding himself caught in an epic battle between the primal forces of light and darknessthe god of Light, Ormazd versus his brother Ahriman, the destructive god of Darkness. The Prince arrives just in time to witness the destruction of the legendary Tree of Life, an act which threatens to plunge the entire world into eternal darkness. Manifested in the form of 'the Corruption,' a dark substance that physically contaminates the land and the skies, the Prince must partner with his new deadly companion Elika to heal the world from the evil Corruption. The Next-Gen of PoP |
A new Prince for a new story. View larger. | The Hunter is not to be trifled with. View larger. | Elika is a beautiful, but deadly ally. View larger. | A Frightening New Enemy and a Powerful Ally As Ahriman, the god of Darkness is released so are his minions of monstrous slaves. The most dangerous and powerful set against the Prince is known as "the Hunter." Once a human prince himself, the Hunter was raised in opulent decadence and detached from the day-to-day world. His only passion was for the drama and brutality of the hunt, but soon passion grew to obsession. After killing every variety of beast known, he grew bored and too bold. Recognizing an opportunity Ahriman appeared to him and offered a bargain, a hunt against the most dangerous beasts the world has to offer in return for his soul. Foolishly he accepted and was transformed from man into demonic beast and was hunted by men from all over the world. His all-consuming rage made easy work of the hunters set against him, but also bound him to Ahriman for eternity.
But wherever there is evil, there is also a counter balance to it. Following the defeat and imprisonment of Ahriman, his brother Ormazd, the god of Light, left the world in the care of his servants, the Ahuras, guardians of the tree of life. The Prince's new ally, Elika, is one of those guardians. Beautiful and mysterious she is a powerful AI companion who accompanies players throughout the game. Filled with an unknown power, she will be helpful in all aspects of gameplay, including acrobatics, combat and puzzle-solving as players quest to rid the land from Ahriman's corruption.
Key Features:- A New Hero Emerges - Master the acrobatics, strategy and fighting tactics of the most agile warrior of all time. Grip fall down the face of a building, perform perfectly timed acrobatic combinations, and swing over canyons, buildings and anything that is reachable. This new rogue warrior must utilize all of his new skills, along with a whole new combat system, to battle Ahriman's corrupted lieutenants to heal the land from the dark Corruption and restore the light.

- Next-Gen Engine - The franchise's debut on next-generation consoles utilizes Ubisoft's proprietary Anvil engine, the same engine used to develop Assassins Creed.

I tried my best to enjoy it, but... January 1, 2009 Sillycow (Canada) it really turned me off. The only plus in this game is its graphics, other than that, everything else in my opinion is very boring and doesn't have any value of excitement. It's funny to see all the game critics giving this title 8+. I really suggest renting it first to get a feel of it before buying it. I regret my purchase.
Prince and the Pauper - this is definately the poor cousin December 15, 2008 D. Chandon (Toronto, Ontario Canada) When I first found out that the current generation of consoles and PC were getting a new Prince for the Prince of Persia I was a little hesitant, considering that even though the previous generation's Prince was a little emo kid with angst to match, but these games were great with fully alive worlds and lots of enemies. This Prince of Persia is a little bit more platform than action when compared to the previous generation, and while it holds tight to the very old school link to the original platformer the challenge just isn't there. The new Prince is a buffon and a thief, and those scarfs, well I thought he was in a desert, but I guess a cape would be too much. So the Prince by chance runs into the Princess, Elika, as she's trying to escape her father, and during the whole scuffle an ancient evil is released, of course, that's what always happens, and it is up to Elika and the Prince to save the world from corruption. While the game looks very pretty with a nice water color display as well as interesting environments that are really enhanced with the use of the Assassin's Creed engine, there is something missing. Life and personality, the hussle and bussle of other people, the thing that really impressed with Assassin's Creed was that and the NPCs that lived in the world which added that personality and depth into the game. Prince of Persia went minimal with the NPCs and dialog are nothing more than cheesey one-liners from the Prince which really hinders that character in the originality department along with character development and evolution, he just spouts out his slanted views on things or situations, I lost interest early in what he had to say. And the princess more or less lacks any real personality and the interaction they share is just pointless and bland. The levels or dungeons or realms, what ever the places they visit are called are large and interesting, but unlike the older Assassin's Creed there is no other life in any of the areas asides Elika and the Prince and the baddies. Coupled with a great deal of repetition the game gets a little predictable. The combat while easy and visually appealing is way too simple, and the fights end up being a blending and combination of the same moves over and over again, there is no death just re-attempts with the time bending abilities of the Princess being very great from the outset. This game is derivative of both Prince of Persia and Assassin's Creed both it's detriment and success. The mechanics are there and so is the gameplay, I actually enjoy the platforming and the combat, however, without other life in the game it becomes this whole you and against the apocalypse which is an old theme. And a very annoying aspect to this game which is pretty obvious to any gamers who touches this game is that it is very, very easy. It seems that Ubisoft Montreal has decided to forget the hardcore gamers out there that would love to play a challenging Prince of Persia in the vain of the previous titles and made it more casual gamer friendly. And while I don't consider myself a hardcore or a casual gamer, I think making any game franchise too easy in an attempt to make it accessible to everyone belittles the audience. I'm sure this game would've been much better with more enemies and harder learning curve. Overall the Prince of Persia is a solid game, but with some glaring omissions like a real difficulty level as well as lack of combat, which is strange considering that the baddies numbers are supposed to be in the thousands, when I've only fought maybe 20 times, 5 times each with the alchemist and hunter, and few times with the same bad guy. But I guess Ubisoft wanted to have a closer link to the interesting platforming rather then the thin combat. And let's not forget the wall running, the most over-used gameplay mechanic for the past few years, there's lots of that. The game is fun, but it's missing way too much to be considered a real Prince of Persia with a lack in challenge or the life in the world of the Prince. But there's something about this game that I just enjoy, and I'm sure it would garner a higher rating if this game was released before Fallout 3, but the Prince of Persia is still a solid game, but it's just a little disappointing.
Misleading Pre-Order Offer December 9, 2008 S. Plasse (Mississauge) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I received an e-mail from Ubisoft, that offered a promotion on all North American pre-orders for this game. (see the Prince of Persia X360-PS3-TGS Trailer 1:56.... in the last 5 seconds of the video). If you pre-ordered this Title, which I did for the X360, you would automatically received, at no extra charge, the pre-order Limited Edition. I exchanged a few e-mails with a staff member at Amazon.ca to confirm that I would receive the Limited Edition (different packaging, with additional materials inside). In the last e-mail, the person confirmed, and I quote from the e-mail: QUOTE: "Rest assured that you will be receiving the special pre-order edition of Prince of Persia" END QUOTE Well, the item arrived today, and IT IS NOT the Limited Edition, but the regular version, no extra materials. Very disappointed after being assured I would get it. I have downloaded that promo video, saved all e-mails exchanged with Amazon.ca staff, and will await their reply to my latest e-mail from today stating the fact that I did not get what I was supposed to. Will update when final outcome is known. From a very frequent shopper at Amazon.ca :-(
