Best thought of as portable ps2, with mp4 capabilities July 1, 2008 Justin Time (York, England) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After one year of owning the Sony PSP console, i have decided to write a review of the portable device. Firstly, some specifications if you have been on the other side of the gaming world for the past two and a bit years (or been kept in shape by your girlfriend). This is the first portaable games player from Sony, and has UMD, Mp4, Mp3, photos and a web browser built in. It also can be upgraded to include skype, go messenger, and Go! cam. Its certinatley not short of extras, and now can be bought at an affordable price. However, things start to add up. Memory sticks cost about 30 quid for a decent one, Go cam another 30, case 5, and games are still retailing at 35 pounds for a new one. But there are many positives. The games are good (generally) with some solid ports and exclusives (Tomb Raider Anniversary, GTA LCS, GTA VCS, god of war, chains of olympus, crysis core) with excelent graphics, and provide many hours of gameplay. Sound quality is good, as is video quality. You can purchase UMD movies (which I advise, as it takes a lot of time and effort to download them, and UMDs are only about 4 pounds a pop) specifically for the PSP. Most new releases are inculded. The web browser, whilst not exactly up to scratch with internet explorer is still a worthwile addition, and can is great for checking facebook, emails, and checking your ebay purchases. Cons? Well, games are certinatley not as abundant as they used to be, with a fair amount of **** being produced. Battery life is dooable, but slightly short. Online play is brilliant, but not as simple as it sounds. You have to create accounts online, have them verified through your email, etc. Not many inventive games, Buttons feel cheap and lack of second analogue stick. However, as portable devises go, the gaming alone is enough to warrant at least 80. The addition of internet, MP3 and 4 really do make it a worthwile purchase. Thanks for reading
Amazing! June 28, 2008 Julie H. Pickwell I bought one of the old ones last year and it was amazing and for christams my friend got this one but in white and it was amazing. Great Graphics and great game play! If i was you i would buy one right now!
Don't listen to bad reviews! June 7, 2008 Mr. N. Birtwistle (England) All other portable consoles seem like chess to this. what is the point of making them. The PSP slim and lite has out classed the original and out classed all other portable devices. You can even get satnavs now for PSP! FANTASTIC!!!
Great piece of Multi-media kit June 2, 2008 Christopher Maitland (West Sussex, England) In the past I did own the original PSP. This unit was thicker, heavier and the battery life left a lot to be desired. The Slim & Light is what the PSP should of been when it was first released. It's alot lighter and slimer than the Mk1 version. The battery life is so much better and lasts a hell of alot longer. Also now that Storage has become alot cheaper then the PSP is really the machine to go for if you want to watch films and play games on the move. I agree it's still big for just a music player and would find it hard to recommend for this use. But to watch films it's excellent, mainly down to the screen size. The Mk2 version does feel alittle cheaper in build quality but you soon forget this as the added features make up for this. The bottom line is if you travel alot and want to watch films and play games on the move, then this is the machine to go for, full stop! You can get a DS lite for games, but there's only so much Brain training you can do.
